It’s that time of the year again! Centro La Familia Advocacy Services, Inc. (Centro) is hosting its 19th Annual Night of Jazz fundraiser, July 30, 2010 and this year it’s at the beautiful venue of Arte Americas! As always, fundraising is a very important part of the agency, but it’s never been as important as it is now. The economy has obviously impacted everyone and we are no exception. For Centro, funding levels have decreased significantly but at the same time, the request for services by families has increased dramatically. Quite frankly we need your help.

As you are aware we are 501(c) 3 non-profit, community based organization serving the working low-income families in Fresno County. Our mission is “to empower low income families to access life-sustaining resources” and to become self-sufficient through education, training and social services.

Last year Centro assisted over 5000 families in need in Fresno County with an array of services, which included assistance with domestic violence restraining orders, parenting classes, children’s health insurance enrollment, housing issues, parent mentoring with children 0-5, health education on areas of breast cancer, diabetes and obesity, EITC tax services, immigration services, and mental health counseling. With the governor proposing to completely eliminate the Healthy Families program and the Cal works safety net, the services we provide are critical to helping families find the resources they need to survive!
